Stephen Lee
Stephen Lee is a Hong Kong native who grew up in Seattle, Washington, USA. He began playing the flute at age 14 and was honored with numerous awards from his high school years. He was privileged to have live performances broadcasted at the KING FM classical radio station in Seattle and later received scholarships from the University of Washington to study with world-renowned wooden flute expert, Felix Skowronek and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Flute Performance in 2000. Stephen was awarded the Trinity Guildhall LTCL Flute Recital Diploma in 2010.
Relocated back to Hong Kong in 2007, Stephen has been busy in teaching and performing. He is a faculty of the Hong Kong Flute Centre and Pure Orchestral Centre. Stephen is also the conductor of the St. Louis Secondary School Orchestra. He is a freelance flutist with Gustav Mahler Orchestra and Hong Kong Symphonia. With his multi-talents, Stephen is much sought-after in the pop music field too. Recent collaborations include ‘The Fairy Tales of Serrini’, ‘TWGHs E Major Ensemble “The Giving Tree” Concert’ and ‘Anita Mui 10th Anniversary Concert’; as well as Hong Kong TV drama’s original soundtrack recordings include ‘Every Step You Take’, ‘The No No Girl’, ‘Heart and Greed 3’, ‘OMG, Your Honour’ and ‘The Man Who Kills Troubles’.
Stephen founded three chamber music groups, namely “Hong Kong Chamber Flutes”, “Project M0Ch3” and “Trio IS2” to promote flute choir, contemporary music, and classical flute-violin-piano trio music. Stephen is the founder, artistic director, and chief conductor of the flute choir in the latter group Stephen teamed up with pianist Christine Cheng, with both of them wishing to promote Contemporary Classical Music to Hong Kong's audience. He also teamed up with violinist Stephen Lam and pianist Irene Chan to promote classical-style trio music for flute, violin, and piano.
As a composer, Stephen composed both Cantopop and Classical music. He wrote and arranged music for solo flute with piano, flute ensembles, and flute choir. His flute trio piece, “Tango for Three”, was one of the final listed works in the Flute View’s Contest for Composers 2015, where the piece was world-premiered by the Flute View Trio. In 2017, Stephen was the assistant music director and music arranger of the Hong Kong original musical drama, “Mencius Sings Around The World”.
One of Stephen’s pedagogic mottos is introducing western flute culture to his students. He led his students to the National Flute Association Convention in the US, one of the largest in the World, in Las Vegas (2012), Washington DC (2015), Minneapolis (2017), and Salt Lake City (2019). Stephen is already the planning NFA Convention tour in San Antonio (2024).
香港長笛家李長豐早年隨家人移民美國西雅圖。雖然十四歲才開始學習長笛,但是高中時已經在不同比賽奪得不少獎項,並於當地古典音樂電台Classic King FM 作直播演出。李氏之後獲華盛頓大學頒發獎學金修讀長笛演奏,師隨著名木笛演奏家Felix Skowronek。李氏於2000年修畢學位課程,並於2010年考獲聖三一演奏文憑(LTCL)。
自07年回港後,李長豐全身投入教學及演奏事業 。他是香港長笛中心及純樂管弦中心之長笛導師,也是聖類斯中學管弦樂團之指揮。李氏除了是馬勒樂團及香港愛樂室樂團長笛手,他亦也活躍於流行音樂界—— 他曾參與之流行音樂項目包括「Serrini的童話世界」、「東華三院E大調合奏團《樹與小孩》音樂會」、「梅艷芳・10・思念・音樂・會」、香港電視劇「陪著你走」、「全職沒女」、「溏心風暴」、 「是咁的,法官閣下」以及未曾上映的「解決師」之幕後配樂演奏。
李氏分別創立了三個不同的室樂演奏團體來推廣三種他喜愛的樂種: 長笛樂團,當代音樂及古典三重奏音樂。他是「香港長笛室樂團」的藝術總監及總指揮,而“Project M0Ch3”則是與鋼琴家鄭盛瑛組成的二重奏, 專門推廣及演奏當代音樂,以期一新香港觀眾的視野。李氏亦聯同小提琴家林潤山及鋼琴家陳倩湄組成古典三重奏。
作曲方面,李氏亦為他擅長的樂器長笛寫下不少獨奏、室樂及長笛樂團合奏作品,當中有原創,有改編,有流行也有古典風。他的長笛三重奏「Tango for Three 」就在2015年Flute View 作曲家比賽中入選成為決賽入圍作品之一,並由Flute View Trio 作世界首演。去年,李氏又在香港原創音樂劇「孟子與虎媽唱遊大世界」擔任助理音樂總監及為音樂劇編曲。
李氏在教學上的其中一個抱負是讓學生認識西方的長笛文化。為此他在2012年開始組織學生遊學團前往美國參加拉斯維加斯(2012)、首都華盛頓(2015)、明尼蘇達(2017)以及鹽湖城(2019)舉辦之美國國家長笛協會長笛大會,而該長笛大會是全球其中一個最大型的同類活動。
